Leuchtturm1917 Sketchbook Square

The Leuchtturm1917 Sketchbook Square removes a decision you did not realise you were making. A 225 millimetre square has no long edge and no short one, so nothing about the page suggests which way a drawing ought to go. Composition becomes a choice rather than a default, and the format suits pattern work, lettering and anything destined for a screen.

The 150 g/m² cartridge paper is thick and faintly toothed, giving pencil something to hold on to and ink somewhere to sit. Thread binding opens the book flat so the square stays square across the spread. A ribbon marks your place, an elastic band keeps it shut, and the pocket inside the back cover takes whatever you have collected along the way.

What Makes It Work So Well

• No wrong orientation: You never turn the book to decide how a page works, and the square crops straight to social dimensions with nothing lost.
• Takes wet media calmly: The 150 g/m² surface absorbs ink and marker without cockling, so a finished page stays as flat as a fresh one.
• Stays shut in a bag: The elastic holds firm and the hardcover keeps its edges, so loose pages never escape between studio and home.
